Self portraits
VIS183A | SP20
I step out from behind my camera to share a series of self-portraits in pairs, made during my final year of undergrad—a time marked by displacement, pandemic-induced isolation, and the quiet unease of transition. Each diptych explores dualities of presence and absence, visibility and concealment, home and elsewhere. Together, they document a fractured sense of self—refracted through shifting light, color, and the familiar limbo of living between spaces.
Included in UC San Diego’s Kamil Gallery exhibition, a curated selection of work by graduating seniors, as chosen by Professor Paul Mpagi Sepuya (@pagmi).
Conceived and completed as a senior project during the first fully remote academic quarter shaped by the constraints and isolations of COVID-19 lockdown.
